SAG 2019 Awards Full TV Nominations List: ‘The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel’ and ‘Ozark’ Lead With Four Each

What a difference a year makes. Wednesday morning’s announcement of the Screen Actors Guild Award TV nominees initially appeared to be a repeat of 2017 with Netflix dominating across the board. And while the streaming service did lead with the most nominations overall with 14, Amazon is giving some stiff competition with eight nominations.

Not only that, but both Amazon and Netflix boast the two shows with the most nominations. “The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel” and “Ozark” have four nominations each, one for their respective categories and three for their stars. Netflix also made a strong showing with multiple nominations for newcomer “The Kominsky Method,” “Glow,” and “Grace and Frankie.” Amazon didn’t even show up on the board last year but is making up for lost time. Besides “Maisel,” the streaming service also garnered two nominations for “Tom Clancy’s Jack Ryan,” along with solo nods for ”King Lear,” and “A Very English Scandal.

Angel Has Fallen was first announced back in 2016 as a follow up to London Has Fallen. It was also revealed at that time that Gerard Butler was returning to star and produce the project. Morgan Freeman portrayed the vice president in the first two installments and will be the president for the upcoming third movie. As for the tone of the movie, Butler promises that it's

‘Can You Ever Forgive Me?’ would be 2nd consecutive film to sweep Best Actress and Supporting Actor Oscars

‘Can You Ever Forgive Me?’ would be 2nd consecutive film to sweep Best Actress and Supporting Actor Oscars
Melissa McCarthy and Richard E. Grant are two of the most acclaimed actors of this award season thanks to their performances in “Can You Ever Forgive Me?” Critics are loving McCarthy’s raw, understated portrayal of literary forger Lee Israel and Grant as her wry, scene-stealing friend and accomplice, Jack Hock, to the point that they are both serious contenders to earn matching Oscar nominations. Should they go on to win their categories, Best Actress and Best Supporting Actor, “Can You Ever Forgive Me?” would repeat the success of last year’s “Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri.”

‘Green Book’: The Feel-Good Oscar Contender Has a ‘Magical Negro’ Problem — Analysis

‘Green Book’: The Feel-Good Oscar Contender Has a ‘Magical Negro’ Problem — Analysis
Dr. Donald W. Shirley was a piano prodigy of Jamaican descent who had mastered much of the standard concert repertory by age 10. “His virtuosity is worthy of gods,” Igor Stravinsky once said. Yet the idiosyncratic Shirley has been reduced to one of cinema’s long-standing racist stock characters in Peter Farrelly’s “Green Book.”

To be fair, “Green Book” doesn’t set out to be a Don Shirley biopic; however, the movie’s billed as essentially an interracial buddy comedy. Universal, which produced the film, plans to submit the true-life road trip film in the Best Comedy/Musical at the Golden Globes (although its eventual category placement will be determined by the Hollywood Foreign Press). American buddy comedies have generally mandated equal screen time to both characters — except when one of those characters is black, and exists almost entirely to help transform his white companion on a quest toward salvation.

Saudia Arabia’s Investment Fund Eyes Legendary Investment As Country Charges 11 For Jamal Khashoggi Murder

  • Deadline
Saudi Arabia’s sovereign wealth fund is eyeing a $700M investment in Pacific Rim and Jurassic Park studio Legendary Entertainment, according to reports.

The country’s Public Investment Fund is considering to purchase a stake from Chinese conglomerate Wanda, which bought the company in 2016, according to news agency Reuters.

This comes as Saudi Arabia’s public prosecutor charged 11 people over the murder of journalist Jamal Khashoggi but refused to implicate crown prince Mohammad Bin Salman.

A deal would be the first test of Hollywood’s appetite for Saudi investment following the murder of the Washington Post columnist.

Reuters reports that the Pif is in talks to hire a financial adviser to help with the bid.

This comes after it emerged that Endeavor Content was considering withdrawing from a $400M Saudi investment in the company. Last month, sources told Deadline that the holding company that includes one of the world’s pre-eminent talent agencies,

Will ‘Green Book’ helmer Peter Farrelly get a ‘Miss Daisy’ Oscar drive-by in the directing category?

Will ‘Green Book’ helmer Peter Farrelly get a ‘Miss Daisy’ Oscar drive-by in the directing category?
Many early reviews of “Green Book,” a real-life story about a cultured Jamaican-American concert pianist (Mahershala Ali) and an uncouth Bronx-born bouncer (Viggo Mortensen) who serves as his chauffeur as they tour the segregated South, can’t help but compare it to 1989’s “Driving Miss Daisy.” That Best Picture winner paired Morgan Freeman’s driver with Jessica Tandy’s Jewish lady of means who lives in Atlanta. The relationship between a black hired hand and white employer takes place over four decades, starting in the late ‘40s. It is a sentimental tale that gently touches upon both racial and religious prejudice while examining how a common bond grows between two very different people.

It can’t hurt being compared to an earlier dramedy that claimed Oscars for Tandy as Best Actress, its adapted screenplay and makeup. Or can it? The one not-so-pleasant distinction associated with the nine-time Academy Award nominee
