Trivia

This ceremony had the unique distinction of having a real person and a character of the same name as nominees. Ryan Bingham was nominated for (and won) Best Original Song for "The Weary Kind" from Crazy Heart (2009). George Clooney was nominated for Best Actor for playing a character named Ryan Bingham in Up in the Air (2009). See more »

Goofs

Samuel L. Jackson states that Up is the second film to be nominated for both Best Picture and Best Animated Film. This is incorrect since the only other animated film to be nominated for Best Picture was Belle en het Beest, but it was not nominated for Best Animated Film. The category didn't exist in 1991. Quotes

Steve Martin: Meryl Streep holds the record for most nominations as an actress. Or as I like to think of it, most losses.

Oscar night has come and gone once again
8 March 2010 | by hcrsteevesSee all my reviews

I always look forward to the Oscars! This was the most enjoyable one for me in a long time. Alec Baldwin and Steve Martin were great hosts -- very funny. Baldwin is the epitome of cool. The only real disappointment was that there were no real surprises in most of the categories. So I made a pact with myself next year not to read magazines newspapers or watch television shows that pertain to Oscar predictions. Just so there will be an element of surprise next year.

Regardless of that it was one of the best Oscar telecasts in a long time. The tributes to the lead actors and actresses prior to the announcement of the winners in those categories was a bit tedious for me, even though, as I said, I pretty much knew who would win. Even at almost 3 and a half hours, it was pretty entertaining.
