A Family Affair - Dakota Johnson Spends Thanksgiving With Chris Martin and Gwyneth Paltrow
Dakota Johnson and Chris Martin's relationship was taken to a new level on Thanksgiving as the Fifty Shades of Grey actress spent the holiday with Chris and his ex-wife, Gwyneth Paltrow, on the East Coast. According to E!, Gwyneth's husband, Brad Falchuk, and her children, Apple Martin and Moses Martin, were also there. This is the first major holiday that Dakota and Chris have spent together since they started dating in 2017. E! also reports that Gwyneth and Dakota have "spent a good amount of time together and have a very nice friendship" and that "the kids really like Dakota and enjoy spending time with her."

Chris and Dakota's romance has certainly developed over the past year. In January, they were spotted getting nice and cozy together on a Malibu beach, and they got matching tattoos in September. So it makes total sense that the happy couple decided to spend

‘After’ Trailer: Things Heat Up In The New Erotic Thriller That Feels Like Teenage ‘Fifty Shades’

When “Twilight” became a massive franchise, the series spawned dozens of lesser film copycats. The same thing happened when Jennifer Lawrence became a huge star thanks to “Hunger Games.” So, now that “Fifty Shades of Grey” has finished its successful(?) run in theaters, you knew that…ummm, similar films would be coming sooner or later. And it appears one of the first ones is the upcoming “After.” However, this version of the erotic thriller has a very…interesting twist.

There are a few things to unpack here. First and foremost, this movie looks like the teen version of Fifty Shades of Grey, where an introverted girl gets mixed up with a dark and …

Teenage Thirst: "Twilight" Ten Years Later

  • MUBI
We would like to be different—like the vampire we like. — Laurence A. Rickels, The Vampire Lectures1 Stephenie Meyer had never read about or seen a vampire—on-screen or in her heart—before.2 The first she encountered was in a dream, where one stood on a field with a girl by his side. In a gushing post on her website, the author divulges her vision: “[They] were discussing the difficulties inherent in the facts that A) they were falling in love with each other while B) the vampire was particularly attracted to the scent of her blood, and was having a difficult time restraining himself from killing her immediately.”3 The lovers’ discourse will later become chapter 13 of Twilight, a formative but forbidden romance novel adored among teens and a sizable number of adults, published in October of 2005. At the height of its popularity, my school library labeled the books with scarlet warning stickers of shame,

Film Review: ‘Robin Hood’

Film Review: ‘Robin Hood’
If you’re a purist about Robin Hood, then you probably won’t go for “Robin Hood.” It’s a let’s-retrofit-the-legend-for-the-kids movie, and it’s not shy about its fast and furious action-and-attitude makeover tendencies. The battle scenes, fought with bows and arrows, really are battles, in which the arrows land with the force of bullets, destroying on contact. The cast is all fresh-faced youth-idol sexiness: Taron Egerton, from the “Kingsman” films, playing the sort of boy-band Robin Hood a high schooler might hang a poster of in her bedroom; Eve Hewson, who — you heard it here first — has the stuff to be a major movie star (more on that in a moment), as a supremely sensual and spirited Marian who takes her commands from no man; and Jamie Dornan, from the “Fifty Shades of Grey” films, as Marian’s earnest scraggle-bearded boyfriend. (You know a movie is about

Twilight: 20 Things Jacob Can Do (That Edward Cant)

Even though it's been over a decade since Breaking Dawn hit bookshelves worldwide and six years since Summit Entertainment's The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn - Part II officially brought Stephenie Meyer's iconic young adult romantic fantasy series to a close, fans still can't stop talking about Bella Swan and her supernatural adventures in Forks.

The Twilight books and films had everything readers and audiences alike could possibly want. There was action, adventure, suspense, horror, and enough passion to inspire E.L. JamesFifty Shades of Grey novels. The series also featured one of the most complex love triangles ever, and while most fans rejoiced when Bella married Edward Cullen and earned a happy ending with her supposed soulmate, some still argue to this day that she should have chosen Jacob Black instead.

Stephenie Meyer did her best to appease Team Jacob fans by giving the kind-hearted young member

‘A Private War’ Film Review: Rosamund Pike and Jamie Dornan Give Searing Performances as Real-Life War Correspondents

‘A Private War’ Film Review: Rosamund Pike and Jamie Dornan Give Searing Performances as Real-Life War Correspondents
Applauded for his intrepid commitment to attaining and sharing firsthand versions of the truth, filmmaker Matthew Heineman came into the foreground of the documentary community upon the release of his third feature, 2015’s “Cartel Land.” Voluntarily putting himself in harm’s way, he used his privilege as a white American man to chronicle the Mexican Drug War, often with bullets raining down on him and his camera.

Heineman then professionally transformed himself into a cross between a war correspondent and a lyrical storyteller, an amalgamation that can just as well apply to Marie Colvin, the award-winning journalist for London’s Sunday Times tasked with covering some of the most gruesome international conflicts of the last 30 years. She did so with unshakable resolve, bearing the personal cost of trauma most of us will never know.

Playing out as more of a formally daring conversation between two kindred spirits (director and subject

Movie Review – Suspiria (2018)

Suspiria, 2018.

Directed by Luca Guadagnino.

Starring Dakota Johnson, Tilda Swinton, Mia Goth, Sylvie Testud, Jessica Harper, Renée Soutendijk, Angela Winkler, Ingrid Caven, Małgorzata Bela, Vanda Capriolo, Fabrizia Sacchi, Elena Fokina, Alek Wek, Clementine Houdart, Jessica Batut, Doris Hick, Olivia Ancona, Anne-Lise Brevers, Majon Van der Schot, Christine Leboutte, and Chloe Grace Moretz.

Synopsis:

A darkness swirls at the center of a world-renowned dance company, one that will engulf the artistic director, an ambitious young dancer, and a grieving psychotherapist. Some will succumb to the nightmare. Others will finally wake up.

It’s easy to see why Quentin Tarantino reportedly cried after viewing Suspiria, a blending of genres that is both, unlike anything we’ve ever seen yet also similar to something that legendary director would brew.

Suspiria demands to be seen twice to both fully understand and appreciate its barking madness. The basic plot is easy enough to grasp (sometimes

The Darkness is Ours to Take in Luca Guadagnino’s Hellish, Operatic and Unapologetically Feminist “Suspiria” Update

“How the hell do you remake Suspiria?!” A valid question all fans of scary movies have wondered since David Gordon Green announced he would repurpose Dario Argento’s legendary Technicolor-soaked supernatural giallo about the sinister events taking place inside an esteemed ballet academy into an all-new experience last decade – an announcement made all the stranger as the project was following his 2008 hit Pineapple Express, though one can argue how a transition from stoner comedy to surrealist horror seems appropriate for him. But as life and the pursuit of creativity goes, Mr. Green left the project to tackle Halloween and Suspiria ended up in the hands of Italian filmmaker Luca Guadagnino. Alongside writing collaborator David Kajganich, Mr. Guadagnino truly had his work cut out for him on this one, and for this project to be the immediate follow up to his lauded masterwork Call Me by Your Name is a move

Dakota Johnson: ‘Suspiria’ Is the ‘Landmark Moment’ of Her Career, But the Actress Is Just Getting Started in Hollywood

Dakota Johnson: ‘Suspiria’ Is the ‘Landmark Moment’ of Her Career, But the Actress Is Just Getting Started in Hollywood
Girl Talk is a weekly look at women in film — past, present, and future.

Dakota Johnson hadn’t even seen Dario Argento’s 1977 giallo classic “Suspiria” when she agreed to star in its bloody, bruising remake about a Berlin ballet school overrun by witches and plenty of female aggression. Director Luca Guadagnino first mentioned the project to Johnson when the pair was filming “A Bigger Splash” in Italy during the summer of 2014, the first film in what’s shaping up to be quite the ongoing collaboration.

Johnson had not yet seen the original, but the filmmaker was intent on her playing the lead role of seemingly wide-eyed dancer Susie Bannion. As the actress recalls, the answer was easy enough, and Johnson issued some variant on “okay, great, let’s do it.” Eventually, she watched Argento’s film, though she promises that viewing didn’t distort her experience when it came

Suspiria Review #2: An Audacious Shock to the Senses

Suspiria Review #2: An Audacious Shock to the Senses
Suspiria is a cinematic shock to the senses. It is a truly unique experience; disturbing, bizarre, yet entrancingly hypnotic. The film holds your attention like a hallucinogenic riptide. It swings wildly from nightmarish to alluring, then back again. The genius is that it remains substantive. The plot is not lost or cheapened by arthouse theatrics. Luca Guadagnino, the Italian auteur behind the Desire Trilogy, I Am Love, A Bigger Splash, and Call Me by Your Name; has delivered the most audacious film of the year. Suspiria is certainly not for mass consumption, but will be appreciated by discerning audiences.

Suspiria takes place in 1977 Berlin. The city is engulfed in political upheaval. Dakota Johnson stars as Susie Bannion, a young American woman who wants to study dance at the prestigious Markos Academy. Uncultured, untrained, and from a deeply religious Ohio family, Susie astonishes the director, Madame Blanc (Tilda Swinton), in her audition.
