Jason Bateman to direct first two episodes and serve as executive producer.

HBO has ordered The Outsider, its series version of Stephen King’s latest full-length novel, and set Ben Mendelsohn to star.

Jason Bateman will direct the first two episodes of the series and serve as executive producer through his Aggregate Films company. Temple Hill Entertainment is also producing and Mrc is the studio on the project.

Richard Price has adapted the novel, about a seemingly straightforward murder investigation in which a seasoned cop and an unorthodox investigator come up against an insidious supernatural force.

Starz Comes To Hulu Just In Time For ‘Outlander’ Season 4 Premiere

Starz is coming to Hulu — just in time for the fourth season premiere of Outlander on Nov. 4.

Beginning today, Hulu subscribers can add Starz to their subscription plans and gain access to the network’s live Starz and Starz Encore channels, and on-demand access to current and past seasons of shows, including Outlander, Power, Vida, Counterpart and American Gods. Subscribers also can catch such popular movies as Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle and Spider-Man: Homecoming.

The Starz premium add-on is available on all of Hulu’s subscription plans including the Hulu with Live TV plan for an additional $8.99 a month,

Hulu Adds Starz as Add-On Option to Streaming Plans

Hulu is now seeing Starz: The streamer reached a deal with the Lionsgate-owned premium TV network to offer Starz as an option to customers on any of Hulu’s subscription plans.

Starting Tuesday, Oct. 23, Hulu subscribers can add Starz for $8.99 per month, the same price it’s available for directly and through Amazon, Sling TV and YouTube TV (while At&T’s DirecTV Now charges $8 monthly for Starz).

With the Starz add-on, Hulu customers will have access to the network’s live Starz and Starz Encore channels along with their full on-demand catalogs featuring current and past seasons of original series including “Outlander,” “Power,” “Vida,” “Counterpart” and “American Gods.” Starz also offers movies such as “Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle” and “Spider-Man: Homecoming” through its output deal with Sony Pictures as well as original documentaries.

Deepening the investment of Hollywood agencies in content production, United Talent Agency has teamed with Valence Media and its Media Rights Capital subsidiary on a joint venture to be called Civic Center Media.

The new entity, in which UTA will hold an undisclosed minority stake, will develop, produce and finance premium TV series. Financial terms were not revealed, and the announcement of the venture said a search is under way for an executive to lead it.

The announcement of Civic Center noted that UTA is opting not to create an in-house production operation but rather partnering with an established outside company with 15 years of experience in TV and film.

United Talent Agency (UTA) has set a joint venture with Valence Media and its independent studio division, Media Rights Capital (Mrc), to develop, produce and finance premium television series and partner with the creative community’s top artists.

The new venture will be named Civic Center Media, of which UTA will have an undisclosed financial stake. The financial details of the transaction were also not disclosed. A search is currently underway for an executive to lead the new venture.

Valence Media and Mrc’s film and TV roster includes “House of Cards,” “Ozark,” “Counterpart,” “Ted,” and “Baby Driver.”

Rashida Jones’ Le Train Train Productions Inks First-Look TV Pact With Mrc
Rashida Jones has planted her flag with Mrc, setting up a first-look TV development pact with the indie studio.

Jones and her producing partner, Will McCormack, will develop projects for Mrc through their Le Train Train production banner. The pair at present are exec producers on TNT’s “Claws” and the Jones starrer “Angie Tribeca.”

Jones also directed and produced through Le Train Train the new Netflix documentary “Quincy,” about her father, music legend Quincy Jones.

McCormack is set to direct and produce the feature “Angry Bill,” targeted for next year.

Mrc’s active TV slate includes Netflix’s “House of Cards” and “Ozark” and Starz’s “Counterpart.”

Oscar winner J.K. Simmons, Sienna Miller and Taylor Kitsch have joined the cast of STXFilms’ upcoming action thriller “17 Bridges,” starring Chadwick Boseman.

17 Bridges” stars Boseman as a disgraced NYPD detective who is thrust into a citywide manhunt for a pair of cop killers after uncovering a massive and unexpected conspiracy.

As the night unfolds, lines become blurred on who he is pursuing, and who is in pursuit of him. When the search intensifies, extreme measures are taken to prevent the killers from escaping Manhattan as the authorities close all 17 bridges to prevent any entry or exit from the island.

The studio, a division of Stx Entertainment, did not specify what roles Simmons, Miller or Kitsch will play.

Apple is getting into business with Chris Evans. The tech giant has given a straight-to-series order to the drama “Defending Jacob,” which will be executive produced by and star Captain America himself.

The limited series is described as a gripping, character-driven thriller based on the 2012 New York Times best-selling novel of the same name written by William Landay.

“Defending Jacob” hails from Paramount Television and Anonymous Content and is created, written and executive produced by “Planet of the Apes” screenwriter Mark Bomback, who will also serve as showrunner. Apple has given an eight-episode straight-to-series order to drama Defending Jacob, headlined and executive produced byCaptain America and The Avengers star Chris Evans.

Created and written by Mark Bomback (Planet of the Apes trilogy) based on William Landay’s bestselling novel, the limited series comes from Paramount Television and Anonymous Content. Oscar-nominated Morten Tyldum is attached to direct the series and executive produce.

Defending Jacob is described as a a gripping, character-driven thriller based on Landay’s 2012 novel published by Random House. The book tells the story of a father dealing with the accusation that his son is a 14-year-old murderer.
