Butterfly with no wings

Watch the original and be wowed. Watch this and you will wonder why you didn't watch the original. There are no memorable scenes, acting is sincere but has no impact and this movie plays out like a tired story instead of an adventure. One has to wonder why this was done and the thought process behind it? Obvious behind the scenes dynamics are at work. I will say that it is watchable but only with a good snack, a friend or a way to kill some time. It is not a must see. I walked out before it ended for two reason. 1. I knew how it ended and 2. enough already. BTW...the book came under scrutiny as to whether it was all true or created by adding a bunch of stories together. Regardless of it all the book is a must read for anyone who likes a good read...

Star Wars A Disney Saga
26 May 2018
This movie is a must see if you are a fan but not because it is that good but only because it is a Star Wars movie and it joins the family and helps keep the main theme alive. It also proves that there can be literally no end to stories regarding Star Wars but with a catch. If they follow this formula, you will see the movies once but not again. Why? It has no memorable scenes. There is no comeback experience beckoning you like there was in the originals of which we couldn't wait to see and over and over again too. This movie is just a nice way to spend some time in the Star War Universe sorry to say. It struck me that they may take some of the segments and make some new rides out of them for Disney's Star Wars theme land or even use in Star Tours theme ride. I did enjoy the star of the movie who managed to capture the adventure aspect of it. Him and Chewbacca make a good team but need more of a storyline. I am a little surprised that Ron Howard could not make this movie more than it was considering his reputation, background and success. I certainly hope that as the Star Wars movies, parks, toys and all the rest continue that they will try to upgrade and give us some quality pictures instead of money-makers for Disney, the stars and their shareholders. This movie used some plot tricks, twists and included the famous music score at the right times to keep us tuned in but not enough to rave about. Two other things may make you wonder also. All those firefights and the main players don't get a scratch while people or creatures all around are dying is trying to watch as a viewer. The other item was that the millennium Falcon uses "toggle switches" yes the type that flip back and forth with long black plastic for your finger to navigate with. I find it hard to believe this tech would exist in a Galaxy far far away a long time ago that has spaceships, hyper drive, holographs and multiple life-forms. Oh well...Take your snack and drink and enjoy this or better yet, buy the original DVD complete set and really use the Force!

Hour of the Viewer

A true Western for western fans is what we got here. Down to earth and believable this movie has grit and realism in several parts that when put together bring credibility to the well told tale of the gunfight at OK corral and then some. James Garner pulls it off nicely along with a splendid supporting cast that all relish their roles and hold nothing back. Decent musical score that helps us stay tuned in too. Enjoy the whiskey drinking, horses, saloons, dust, threats, good and bad guys and notice how the law worked but really didn't. Its like they were between trusting it and not trusting it and this grey zone is where this films spends its time. Law and order was necessary or total chaos would reign. However, the law was in its beginning stages and was not mature enough or strong enough to stand on its own. Furthermore, it could be bought and manipulated of which this movie shows well. The movie is a must see again which is the true test of a good flick and worthy of being in ones library. Get a snack, tasty drink and begin the...

Overkill Kill Kill
28 April 2018
At some point the question of what do these super-heroes do if there are no threats comes-up? One thinks they are just ordinary people going about ordinary lives. Is that what you should do with these powers? Then, the threat of threats come and they all join-up to take it on. I get it. However, what do we do next time? How many times can you save the world? With all these other life-forms, different worlds/planets etc. and different types of super-heroes and their powers why all the fighting all the time? Leaving that alone for now, I remember the days of Superman, Batman, Spider-Man, Green Lantern and the like who stopped burglars, armed robbers, rescued people and kept law and order. Boy things have changed and I am okay with all that too. However, how many dooms-day scenarios can we come with here? Take Thanos for instance. Okay, he's bad. He likes to kill and he goes after planet after planet. Why? Well in this case it is to find what he wants. Okay. What then? What if he gets it all? Now what? He can kill better, faster & cheaper? It doesn't compute. One other annoying thing that comes up in the dialog is the expression OMG or oh my God. If super-heroes are uttering this then there must be a God and if so HE is all powerful exceeding the whole movie premise. That phrase called me back to reality and these movies could do with out it because it doesn't work well in make-believe worlds. All this aside, the theaters were packed, people were rushing in, everyone had their snacks, drinks and pleasant company and apparently we the public like this stuff. It all works rather well if one considers it is all only in the Marvel Universe and the viewers must leave their real Universe behind to visit there. Same with the DC world too. Some of the stories are really far-out stretching it to the max. What do you get a billionaire for Xmas comes to mind? They got it all. Same with us viewers. What's next? Beware of....

Let Your Inner Western Out
26 April 2018
Outstanding Western with all the ingredients plus actors, supporting players and a Director all of high quality and caliber to deliver the goods and help make this a must-see over and over again. Kudos to the musical score and if you activate sub-titles you can sing along too. There is just too much good going on here. That is what makes it one of the greats and a must for any library collection. I thought it brilliant to show how the "bunch" was caught up in a culture transformation of change and how they didn't have what it took to keep up but they also were not the type to lie down and go peaceful either. Thus one of the best movies around depicting how helpless we all are when it comes to aging and change and how important grace is and that is if you are a law-abiding citizen worthy of grace. Here, these boys have had their day and their night is coming to an end. They go in style and the movie shows all that using action and very little words. They understood that the days of the "wild" were coming to an end and them with it. Must see the directors cut to get the full experience and closure for this classic. Have fun in asking yourself what would you have done and who is your favorite character. Have a nice meal or sandwich plus a tasty drink and you are in viewing heaven. Then, sit back and ......

Good Movie Bad Night

I like Dana Andrews. Then, I like these type of pictures where there are ancient writings, curses and things we don't understand so we mock and dismiss them until they come a calling. Well that is what happens here. All investigators for the paranormal start out as skeptics until they have an experience they cannot explain. Here, you can explain it and be glad about it as it applies to you unless it wants to know you better. The Demon does a great job of scare-doom tactics and doesn't bother anyone until it is summoned usually for bad reasons. What I find interesting that you have a set of rules under which it comes and if not followed can backfire and if followed someone ends up having a real bad day. This movie covers that and more too. It moves at a steady pace and yes there is a pesky woman, séances, warnings and for 1957, this was to be part of a double feature. Watch this because it is a....

Yell Danger?
22 April 2018
Dick Powell makes it all make sense and has the ability to carry movie well. He speaks straight to the point, is fearless, can take a beating and there is a part of him when in character that no matter what he does you still like him. That is demonstrated well in this movie. Notice the Los Angeles backdrops capturing sights and sounds from over a half century ago. Good strong supporting cast and remember that the amounts of money talked about in this movie is enough to live comfortably on for the rest of your life in style so apply that thinking when you hear the amounts. did I mention it is a decent thriller/drama? In the fifties, they had a way of getting right to the point regardless of the subject matter. From renting a room, taking a cab or ordering a drink, its done without dragging it out. Also, notice the 4 women portrayed in this movie and how they act out wanting to give themselves over to you if they like you again another trait held over from the 40's and 1950's. Enjoy also seeing how much power the police had. They can detain you or lock you up and everything in between. You don't mistreat them or its curtains to be sure. I also enjoyed that little trailer park in downtown L.A. with the views probably condos today. Hey, sit back, relax and you wont cry danger you just might....

Excellent entertainment giving us history and environmental lessons as well as being a good story to tell. Jeremy Renner brings it home and the on scene locations seal the deal. Amazing movie to contemplate while watching as to how to live in this area successfully as a human as well as how animals try to survive too. We are introduced to people whose ancestors lived off the land for centuries successfully but don't do well in todays modern world. Neverless, the challenges presented can be overcome except when they involve criminal activities. Out there a person must rely on themselves and on the goodwill of others but at the same time you are at the mercy of both. Some do better than others we soon learn. Be patient as the movie sets itself up and then starts to unfold. You will know when and from there, we get suspense, thrills, drama and my favorite: What would you have done? There are plenty of those to consider. Have a snack ready with a tasty drink and expect.....

Easy on the senses with touches of tension, drama and surprises awaits those that catch this movie. It move fast and manages to entertain and keep ones attention from start to finish. The main star is a handsome talented man that seems perfect the role given/assigned so kudos there. The rest play their parts adequately and the result is a movie. Its not top notch in its field but an entry into international political intrigue and does give one a decent return for time and money. Good snack movie and if you catch it on cable that's good enough. It is always good to be reminded how lucky we Americans are to live in America regardless of our own troubles and hang-ups. Watching this shows how other countries don't handle dispute very well or have a long term planning but instead a day to day getting by type living. Be careful however for it is easy to get a dose of the....

Emotions Galore
22 April 2018
First you get Paul Newman who just owns screen time and rightfully so. then, a decent supporting cast making the movie gel and a soap-opera type story is upon you with all the ingredients that keep you interested. The perception that attorneys are all-knowing, all-powerful and rule their worlds is let loose here and each attorney handles if differently. Rich old people who have no life but put on airs that they do abound in this movie. When watching this you get your time and monies worth even though it shamefully feeds your dream-life and imaginations. The scenes are not drawn-out except in a couple of place otherwise the movie moves along and covers quite a bit of ground. High society, hypocrisy, power, love affairs, drinking, socializing, law, courtroom drama, war, orphan issues, mom, dad, ups and downs all resulting in ....

Too Much Time Lost Not Enough Space
20 April 2018
I like sci-fi and it is known for taking us where we find mysteries, adventures and lots of unknowns and this is as it should be. In this case, we have a premise that has been done before and was well-received first time out for its time. However, this version is campy, drawn-out and overdone with soap-opera and time-wasting tools that make the viewer fidget as it slows down and meanders over nothing-ness. Instead of all these series, a pilot two hour movie crammed with action, intrigue and adventure if done right would have set up this reboot the way it should have been. Instead, the viewer has to help this along instead of being entertained a no-no in my movie watching book. The mystery of space, landing on a planet with life-forms, Aliens and their technology etc. is all 'lost", over-looked and dismissed as we spend more time on how the characters are feeling, being needy, cute and ineffective in this genuine mystery of a story if told well. It looks like they were wanting the viewer to love the characters first and then the story and it just doesn't work. For the few good moments that this attempt stayed loyal to the premise, it does hold the attention and have us wanting more accounting for people watching this all the way through hoping it to get better. On a positive ending note, it ends well with intrigue and wanting to know more. If that is the case and they decide to do another set, then get it together and bring this into sci-fi heaven instead of purgatory. If they don't, you will end up with.....

If you like anything to do with Frankenstein then this will only compliment your choice. It takes us into a more believable world where this idea to create life began, developed and took off making us recall the subject of its start-up in the cinemas. Sean Bean is perfectly cast and does a remarkable job lending credibility to the premise and as the series unravels, he brings even more than that. Entertaining and involving with strong images, it is a must see for fans. I like to snack during movies and this one had me eating double-roasted sunflower seeds (home made) with great satisfaction. This fine cast makes the film come alive. Add dislike of the Nazis and love of country and you get an emotional movie making a point. What we forget is how many people died in that war and all the different stories that can be told none of them the same or alike but all unique. One wonders if the 50 million people who died of what difference their lives would have made if they lived. Dialog is good, acting on target and Directing holds up. I found it a little slow in the beginning but that is because I wanted to get to the convicts escaping part. The old man who sets up the escape has a story that tugs at your heart. Get snack, a tasty drink and.....

The Beatles! There was nothing like them when they appeared and they stayed that way for decades. The movie captures their start-up and you can easily see why it caught on so well. These boys were handsome and talented and Everyone agreed with them and their music. Speaking of which we get to experience some of the best start-up songs of any professionals career and they still hold well to this day. Memories for those that grew up with this and for those that didn't, enjoy a decent song with words that make sense about the oldest subject in the world i.e. love. Wait no longer as this movie is...

Premium Western
19 April 2018
Westerns capture a time when the United States was undeveloped and not so disciplined allowing people to really live off the land and display their talents skills as well as their character. That's why you get such a good mix of people like good guys, bad guys, Indians, Gunslingers, lawmen, pioneers, cattle rustlers, settlers, bandits, saloon keepers and general store operators. Cattle was a much needed source of food to the new Cities and Towns just springing up as well as for the folks back east. Who doesn't like a fine piece of steak with the trimmings? Well cattle drives were no easy cakes of walk but very lucrative if you could pull it off. History is presented here in entertainment form. Add whiskey, fights, shootings, Western towns, dust, beans, coffee and down to earth living and you got the makings of a good flick. Further add some top notch actors and we have a classic on our hands. This be that movie and more. Lots of memorable scenes, emotions tugging and real life situations decided in the moment they appear, this movie keeps you entertained start to finish as it is also of epic quality too. If all this is not enough, you get tension, drama and a nice show-down with a good closure in the end. Everyone gave it their best including the Director. Mark this as a....

A Quiet Place (2018)

The Scares Are Loud
15 April 2018
Good Science Fiction is always welcomed and it comes ever so often and not often enough but here is the latest flick worthy of praise. This movie demonstrates that less is more and more it is. We are told just enough to understand what is going on. Then, we are treated to the premise of the movie which is a good one and from there the movie-goer is in for a treat. It does become quiet in the theater while watching and for that reason I chewed my snack slowly and of course for the crunch moments waited for the scares to catch-up. Its all good. Great looking monster/invader and the point that these creatures can hear a pin drop from distances away and then hone in on it gives the viewer the Sci-fi creeps. The many questions beg what would you do in regards to eating, sleeping, sharing, traveling and living? One wrong move and your whole world comes under intense examination. Whoa! Kudos to the creators, actors and all the rest who pulled this off. How refreshing and it appears that a sequel is not out of the question. If that is the case, a good story is mandatory to reel us in again and of course pay-off for the movie-makers. I recommend a good snack and tasty drink and your full attention in guarantees a rewarding out. Oh btw...

This is a rousing epic type movie and for 1940 you sure got your monies worth when you went to the theater to see this. Grab a bite, a friend and some snack and this was a premium night out. How can you miss with Errol Flynn? It also has a nice supporting cast and everyone gives their all for the audience. If all that is not enough, you get some history thrown in too. Whatever the magic that was at work back then is surely gone today with few exceptions. People would flock to the movies to see quality films on big screens but alas they are becoming scarcer and in its stead, cable, streaming and cheap flicks are upon us all. The classics remain however and are perfect for your collection. Include this fine movie. BTW...they define what a 'sea hawk" so relax and ....

Sound of a Good Movie
14 April 2018
The story is excellent and told quite well so you can follow along and let it absorb you as you get into it. Time travel is always a good subject because there is so many unknowns and different ways to travel through time each with different results, explanations and in this movie consequences. The premise is exciting. One little change in the past changes the course of the future. According to this movie, if we don't disturb the past, the right now (as I am writing this) is the reality. Change the past and this posting doesn't exist and even worse, something else exists in this reality we call now. Adding to that is you don't remember what happened if no one corrects the error making it intriguing as time travel can be. Enjoy also so fierce creatures that we simply do not have too much defense against and their will to live at all costs. The premise of time travel presented here is that it is used for entertainment purposes with government supervision. One wonders why it would not be used to update our history books but that is another movie and a different time travel now isn't it? Get a snack ready with a tasty drink and let this be the....

Decent Western story that has all the known ingredients we are looking for such as horses, gunplay, drinking, good and bad guys a robbery that nets over 5k dollars (a lot for back then), a love interest, dust, scenery and good old fashioned Sheriffs trying to enforce the law. Add Fred MacMurray, Barbara Stanwick and Ward Bond plus other familiar faces and you have yourself another story involving the Wild West. Get your snack ready and saddle up here. Also I was surprised to see the words "intermission" come up on the screen. This must have been for selling snacks, drinks and bathroom breaks. BTW, if you don't know what a moonlighter is they explain it pretty good so.....

Capture This Film!

You get William Holden who was a premium movie star at the time with a good story and who doesn't like a prisoner movie? In this case, prisoners of war during the Nazi reign of terror only the Nazis are not depicted as real bad guys just the enemy for this films purposes. Apparently they wanted to keep the whole thing light-hearted and they succeeded. The movie informs and entertains as a story unfolds about a barracks who had a spy. Good memorable scenes throughout the movie and a really butterfly flutter in the stomach ending that turns into chills and deep satisfaction then does an encore. What more could a film viewer ask for? I did a small bowl of sunflower seeds chomping away watching and enjoying. The movie manages to hold your attention as it slowly grows and then grips making you....

I enjoy the two main actors and the Director so right there you got a must see film to visit with. I like action, CIA, International espionage terrorist type movies and this lives up to it all. I thought there was too much dialog between the two stars while in character but then perhaps it had to be done that way. Locations scenes remain true enough, the inside information about how terrorist organizations work and plot and then congratulate each other and how this is a hard issue to stop leaving no alternative but to pursue and destroy instead of preventing. 11 April 2018
First off you get Ethan Hawke so sit back and enjoy this guy do his thing which is quite good. Then, a decent thriller-story with action and it just screams popcorn or sunflower seeds to keep the tension at times under control and to prevent nail biting/trimming. Fascinating premise takes place during a shoot-out and subsequently that had me very interested. Its break-through never before done in a movie of this sort. I first seen it in the original "The day the Earth Stood Still" movie with Michael Rennie at the helm. It was fascinating then and a good plot point and it still works today as this film demonstrates. I also enjoyed highly trained combat teams doing their finest not being invincible but giving a good fight when activated. Ready yourself and ....

The Viewer Need Only Ring Once
9 April 2018
Good story and actors deliver fine entertainment in this movie drama. The movie moves at a steady pace unraveling along the way making the viewer wonder what would they do and why along with the characters. In the course of the story being told, interesting developments take place adding more viewer attraction. Worthy to note is the little diner and where it is located. Quiet diner, with traffic that does repairs and sells gas sustains itself if you work it. They apparently get greedy and work other things thus making one wonder what was the point? The idea of appreciating something after you lost it is introduced here not once but twice and you wonder why it took two times. Enter human nature and perhaps as many as 70 times for the many to come around if they have grace. In this movie, the characters ran out of that plus time and what was lost stays that way. Another interesting note. Watch how people who break the law try to live a normal life. But the question begs...How can they? Its not what you have but how you came to have it that all mankind has to answer for. In this movie, they show you how you can gain the whole world but lose your soul and is demonstrated very well. While the postman may ring twice to make sure you get your package....

Rise of the Viewer
8 April 2018
Who doesn't like the Terminator storyline? The original blew our minds and the follow up the same. However, for this 3rd installment, a little laziness and money driven dynamics is at work here. The allure of quality of the theme is diluted and not brought out. There are long-drawn out scenes and scenes under-developed. There is so much one can do with a super robot that just doesn't surface here. Also, the human parts lack depth and development. This is more of a mathematical movie meaning return on investment than a memorable one. Too bad too but only for the viewer. Everyone else made a buck or two. One gets the felling of being rushed while watching and not slowed down enough to sip a scene for depth. The thrill and action sequences were over the top and while this is allowed, these scenes ran too long and took away from the movie not added to it. Good sci-fi has to be respected if one wants in for the hall of fame spots. For the popcorn and money making, this one performs well-enough. You have to see it to judge it making you a...

Kill Some Time
8 April 2018
Hardly a waste of time but a nice 2 hour absorbing ride into the world of crime and how easy it is to engage in it. All you have to do is be willing to do what ever it takes. This movie demonstrates that dynamic and more. Strong acting and all the well-known supporting actors that you have seen in the different mob movies are in this one. Enjoy as they all give their best inner mobster a chance to come out and play. Objectively speaking, if one wants to go around killing everyone by blowing them up they can but at some point it can be done to you too thus the life of a mobster has no future. Even during peaceful times such as displayed in the Godfather movie, one can be shot because another wants to move up. This world is one that we refer to when we play the game King of the Mountain where we each try to hold the top spot until dethroned. This is shown quite well in this movie too. I like gangster, cop and gritty real-life movies because we see how there is no normal life for anyone who leans toward and practices the dark side principals. Doing the right thing tends to be its own reward but for the some it is not enough thus these type of movies become glamourized and entertaining. Good snack movie with a tasty drink. I was sorry to see this guy get his comeuppance but knew it had to come sooner or later. Why? This life-style says so...Watch and enjoy you wont just...
